Scholarships

Phi Upsilon Omicron, a national honor society in family and consumer sciences, offers scholarships, fellowships and awards only to Phi Upsilon Omicron Members.

Undergraduate scholarships are awarded to members enrolled in baccalaureate degree programs in family and consumer sciences or a related area.

K. Virginia Seidel Scholarship

Each of the above named scholarships will be awarded to Phi U members enrolled in baccalaureate programs. Selection will be based on the applicant’s scholastic record; participation in Phi U and other collegiate activities; a statement of professional aims and goals; professional services; and recommendations. ($500 and up)

Margaret Drew Alpha Scholarship

will be awarded to a Phi U member pursuing a baccalaureate degree in a field of family and consumer sciences with preference given to a dietetics or food and nutrition major. ($500 and up)

S. Penny Chappell Scholarship

will be awarded to a Phi U member pursuing a baccalaureate degree in fashion design and construction, textile design and development and/or textile preservation. ($500 and up)

Mary Weiking Franken Scholarship

will be awarded to a Phi U member working toward a baccalaureate degree in family and consumer sciences or a related area with preference given to majors in child/family or family and consumer sciences education. ($500 and up)

Marty Bickett Frost Scholarship

will be awarded to a Phi U member working toward a baccalaureate degree in family and consumer sciences or a related area. Cumulative GPA 3.3 minimum. ($500 and up)

Tommie J. Hamner Scholarship

will be awarded to a Phi U member pursuing a baccalaureate degree in family and consumer sciences or one of its related areas who has shown exemplary commitment to Phi Upsilon Omicron. ($500 and up)

Phyllis S. Howe Scholarships

will be awarded to Phi U members pursuing baccalaureate degrees in family and consumer sciences. Selection will be based on the applicant’s scholastic record, participation in Phi U, and professional aims and goals. Must provide a financial statement and complete the justification statement (see application). (up to 3 @ $5,750 each)

Jackman Scholarship

will be awarded to a Phi U member working toward a baccalaureate degree in family and consumer sciences or a related area with preference given to majors in family and consumer science education who have shown exemplary commitment to Phi Upsilon Omicron. ($500 and up)

Martha Combs Jenkins Scholarship

will be awarded to a Phi U member pursuing a baccalaureate degree in family and consumer sciences or one of its related areas who has shown exemplary commitment to Phi Upsilon Omicron. ($500 and up)

Treva C. Kintner Scholarships

will be awarded to Phi U non-traditional students. Recipients must have completed at least half of the academic work toward a baccalaureate degree in family and consumer sciences or a related area. ($500 and up)

Delores M. Kluckman Scholarship

will be awarded to a Phi U member with preference given to majors in family and consumer sciences education. The recipient is not required to be a chapter officer. ($500 and up)

Susan M. Rickards Scholarship

will be awarded to a Phi U member with preference given to a student who has shown exemplary commitment to Phi Upsilon Omicron. ($500 and up)

Nell Bryant Robinson Scholarship

will be awarded to a Phi U member pursuing a baccalaureate degree in family and consumer sciences or a related area with preference given to majors in dietetics or food and nutrition. ($500 and up)

Margaret Jerome Sampson Scholarships

will be awarded to Phi U members pursuing baccalaureate degrees in family and consumer sciences with preference given to majors in dietetics or food and nutrition. Selection will be based on the applicant’s scholastic record, participation in Phi U, and professional aims and goals. At least one recommendation should be from the student’s Phi U chapter advisor. Must provide a financial statement and complete the justification statement (see application). (up to 8 @ $5,650 each)

Lillian P. Schoephoerster Scholarship

will be awarded to a non-traditional student who is a member of Phi U working toward a baccalaureate degree in family and consumer sciences or a related subject. Must provide a financial statement and complete the justification statement (see application) explaining the need for additional education for gainful employment and giving reasons why to be considered a viable candidate. (up to $3,750)

Sutherland/Purdy Scholarship

will be awarded to a Phi U member pursuing a baccalaureate degree in clothing and textiles or a related area such as apparel design or fashion merchandising. This student must have held a leadership position in her/his Phi U chapter and have earned at least a 3.0 out of 4.0 overall point average. ($500 and up)

The BATES Family Legacy Scholarship

will be awarded to a Phi U member pursuing a baccalaureate degree and either a career in business or education, where the candidates(s) would be applying any or all of the related sciences of the academic discipline known as Family and Consumer Sciences, especially showing strengths in academics, creativity, and leadership; and who states in their application intentions to make a mark on society with their professional contributions. ($500 and up)
