Conclave
October 1-3, 2026, Lubbock, TX
Lubbock, TX, is rich in cowboy and farming traditions, with deep ties to both Indigenous and Spanish influences. Known as the “Hub City”, it sits at the crossroads of five different highways, serving as a centralized point of transportation, commerce, and education. Lubbock is also famously the birthplace of rock ‘n’ roll legend Buddy Holly, whose legacy continues to shape many facets of the city’s culture.
The presence of Texas Tech University has elevated Lubbock into a thriving center of research, healthcare, and innovation in West Texas, as it is one of the few campuses in the nation to house a major university, law school, and medical school all on the same grounds. Founded in 1923 with just over 900 students, Texas Tech has grown into a powerful symbol of higher education, now enrolling over 42,000 students each semester.
Ever wonder why Texas Tech students throw tortillas during the kickoff of each football game? The tradition began after an ESPN commentator once joked that “there’s nothing in Lubbock but a tortilla factory.” Students embraced the remark with humor, turning it into a lasting tradition by tossing tortillas onto the field. No one can say the Red Raiders don’t have spirit!
The university’s campus, known for its distinct Spanish Renaissance architecture, is the second-largest continuous campus in the United States, spanning over 1,839 acres. From sculptures and murals to mosaics and large-scale installations, Texas Tech features over 150 works of public art displayed across campus. Each piece tells a story about the university’s values, West Texas heritage, and commitment to blending creativity with scholarship.

Texas Tech holds the distinction of establishing the first Texas chapter of Phi Upsilon Omicron in 1938 under the leadership of Margaret Watson Weeks, underscoring the university’s growing influence in family and consumer sciences. What began as a small home economics division with only three vocational teachers in the 1920s has expanded into the College of Health and Human Sciences, offering programs in nutrition, family studies, hospitality, retail management, and more. This legacy continues today, as the Museum of Texas Tech University houses the largest clothing and textiles collection at a university in the United States.
Each university tradition is in place to honor the past and look towards the future, reminding students and alumni alike of the enduring Red Raider spirit that defines Texas Tech.
